Michigan Future Problem Solving

The Michigan Future Problem Solving Program (MFPSP) provides creative problem solving activities for students grades K- 12. Spanning a variety of disciplines and content areas, MFPSP consistently demonstrates its validity in education as an integral part of a school’s curriculum or as an academic extracurricular activity. Michigan Future Problem Solving is a state affiliate of the Future Problem Solving Program International.

Components

Global Issues Problem Solving (GIPS)

Students utilize a problem solving process to solve important issues on a given global topic.

Community Projects

Students choose a problem within their own community, create and action plan and implement a solution.

Story Telling

Students write a scenario on one of the annual topics and then perform it using storytelling techniques.

Creative Writing

Students write a creative and futuristic story highlighting key issues within one of the annual topics.

Coach

Traditionally MFPSP has been run by teachers as part of their school day or as an extra-curricular activity.
BUT…that is not the only way to have a team! Parents, higher level students, etc. can all be trained as coaches. We highly encourage any interested person to be trained and start coaching!
Teams also do not need to be based in a traditional school. Homeschool families, religious clubs and others can all have teams.

Evaluate

Evaluators come from all sources. Coaches, administrators, parents and even students can become evaluators. We offer free trainings, and mentoring to support our new evaluators as they learn the process. All potential evaluators must be familiar with the program, and students must be 10th grade or higher.

Volunteer

Volunteers are needed to help run our State Bowl Competition at Michigan State University each year. Volunteers aid in set up, answering questions, directing foot traffic, running the store, monitoring competition rooms, monitoring presentations and more. Parents, siblings, and interested parties are all welcome to volunteer. Email our President Russ Sieron to be added to our contact list and to learn more.
